Hey everyone,
Thought this might be a good place for an update.
I caravaned here with my coworker, Corbin, who I am also sharing a small apt. with. We left the 29th, and due to our manager still having stuff for us to do in town, we didn’t get on the road until noon, getting into SLC at about 3:30 am (we slowed down ’cause of the weather, no incidents tho). The drive all along the river, then thru the Blue Mtns east of Pendleton was absolutely incredible!
Got in to a Motel 6 about 4am Wednesday, and after not being able to sleep more than five hours, we went out to find the job site, then met up with our landlord to sign the lease (month to month). Worked Thursday and Friday about ten hours each , and ended the week yesterday with a 14 hour shift. Just slept in today, then ran some errands with Corbin and saw Avatar 3D. We tried to make today relaxing since this next week is going to be pretty busy too.
Funny experience (now that it’s over)…we took my car to get washed after the movie today ’cause of all the salt they use on the roads. The car wash, like none I’ve seen before, has closing “garage” doors on the entrance and exit. After the wash, the front door opened and we started to drive thru the dryer. After noticing a count’down clock with lots of time on it, I decided to back up and re-dry the front of my car to maximize the amount of drying-off time I had. The door immediately started to close, and I couldn’t get out. After several minutes of backing up and pulling forward trying to trigger a sensor that evidently wasn’t there, I ended up getting out of my car to search for something, ANYTHING…finally spotting an emergency door-open button. With Corbin and I both in a mild state of panic (it’s nighttime and nobody else was around), I bolted out of there as soon as the door opened. No worries, we’re both laughing about it now.
Things are going well overall. I’ve connected via e-mail with some Biola alumni in the area, one of whom I actually knew while I was there. I’ll be connecting with them when they get back in town from their holiday travels, and probably will go to church with them this Sunday. I’m looking forward to that for sure. I thoroughly enjoy Corbin, he’s about the closest unbelieving friend I’ve ever had, but I look forward to fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ.
I miss you all already. Hope things are well with you all, and I look forward to catching up soon. Take care.
Ken.
